Jewellery Care

WHAT IS WATERPROOF & TARNISH RESISTANT JEWELLERY?

It refers to jewellery designed to withstand exposure to water without rusting, tarnishing, or fading. It’s typically made from high-quality, durable materials and advanced plating methods that make it resistant to moisture, sweat, and everyday wear.

If you’re after jewellery that’s both durable and affordable, ensure you look out for the following:

  • Stainless Steel Base: This is the key to true tarnish resistant jewellery. It naturally resists rust, tarnish, and corrosion, so it keeps its shine even through the occasional exposure to moisture. It also will not turn your skin green.
  • PVD Gold Plating (Physical Vapour Deposition): PVD is a high-performance coating method that is tougher, more scratch-resistant, and will not easily fade, peel, or chip. It still deserves care, but it’s far more durable than standard gold plating.
  • Transparent Material Info: If a brand doesn’t clearly state what their jewellery is made from, that’s a red flag. Look for specifics, not vague terms like “gold finish” or “plated metal.”

“Waterproof” doesn’t mean indestructible. It can handle daily exposure to water, but harsh chemicals (like bleach), rough scrubbing, or poor storage can still wear it down over time.

CARING FOR YOUR PÉROLA COLLECTIVE JEWELLERY:

We create high quality jewellery that is lead and nickel free and hypoallergenic. To ensure longevity of your Pérola Collective jewellery we recommend:

  • Remove all jewellery when you shower, swim, sleep, touch cleaning chemicals and exercise.
  • Put on jewellery after you apply perfume, moisturiser, hairspray, make-up and have washed your hands.
  • Store jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • We recommend that you store your Pérola Collective jewellery separately in the jewellery bag or gift box provided when you are not wearing them to avoid contact with moisture, scratches from friction and oxidisation.

CLEANING YOUR PÉROLA COLLECTIVE JEWELLERY:

To avoid damaging or scratching your jewellery, we recommend you use a gentle approach and do not rub too hard. Use a soft cloth with warm water or a cotton bud.

Never use any chemicals to clean your Pérola Collective jewellery.

Use a dry, soft, 100% cotton or microfibre cloth to gently polish your jewellery to restore shine and to remove marks or light tarnishing. Never over-polish your jewellery as this can affect the gold plating.

Everyone’s skin varies in pH levels. Some may have higher acidity levels than others. This may increase the rate at which your jewellery oxidises and causes discolouration. All metals oxidise naturally overtime time and will require care.

Many of our pieces are crafted from 925 sterling silver. A premium blend of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. This combination enhances strength and durability, while keeping its beautiful shine.

READJUSTING YOUR EARRINGS:

Our high quality huggie earrings are made from 925 sterling silver and tarnish resistant stainless steel. These metals can be slightly malleable if too much force is applied.

If your Pérola Collective earrings become loose or do not click closed, we recommend that you open the earring hoop and gently push on the end of the curved post with your finger or thumb. This will reposition the metal post and enable your earrings to close and securely click back into place.

Pérola Collective is not responsible for damaged jewellery due to careless wear and inadequate storage.
